How to Transport 200-lb Scooter on 2006 Ford F-350 Pulling Jayco Pinnacle 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I tow a 2013 Jayco Pinnacle 5th wheel with a 2006 Ford F350 turbo diesel. I would like to find a way to carry a 200 lb scooter but Jayco does not recommend installing a hitch on the back of the camper. Do you have a recommendation? Is a rack available for the top of the truck? I am considering a front hitch, but do not want the scooter blocking my view or the truck radiator.

Many hitch-mount accessory items such as cargo and scooter carriers and bicycle racks are not suitable for use on the back of a trailer due to the extreme forces found at the rear of such vehicles. Much in the same way that the rear seat on a bus or roller coaster gets the roughest ride, anything attached to the rear of a trailer will be subjected to forces that could damage it. While we do offer bicycle racks that could work on the back of your 5th wheel, we have no RV-rated scooter carriers capable of handling your 200-lb scooter.
We do offer scooter/motorcycle carriers for truck beds but these will not be compatible with your 5th wheel installation.
Although your concerns about visibility and engine cooling are quite valid, a front-mount hitch like Draw-Tite # 65022 may be your best option. This hitch has a 2-inch receiver rated for 500-lbs tongue weight. With this you could use a carrier like etrailer # e98873 which includes a loading ramp. With this I suggest cargo control straps such as # EM05710.
