Is Rightline Sport 2 Waterproof Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S10 Suitable for 2000-Mile Road Trip

Question:

I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue, which has only the side rails on the roof. I dont really want to install cross bars on the roof - would this roof bag be suitable for a 2k mile trip if it is attached only on the sides, rather than all around?

The Rightline Sport 2 Waterproof Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S20 is a fine rooftop cargo solution for your Nissan Rogue that does not have factory or aftermarket roof crossbars. This bag employs a flexible mounting scheme that allows it to mount to metal cargo baskets, bare roofs or roof racks. This 12-cubic-foot bag will attach securely to your Rogue's raised factory side rails. If you like you can add on the Rightline Car Clips # RL100600 which avoid the need to run straps inside the vehicle.

I suggest their Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650 to both help keep the bag from shifting around on your roof and also to protect the vehicle's paint finish. It is important to keep the bottom of the bag itself and the attachment point on the roof clean and free of road grit that could cause scratches.

A great accessory often chosen by customers with rooftop cargo is a tire step like # HE4040. This item comes fully assembled and simply slips over a rear tire to give you easier access to your cargo for loading and unloading. It folds for easy storage.

It is a good idea to review your Rogue owner's manual for any guidance about rooftop cargo weight limits. Unlike plastic or metal cargo carriers this lightweight Rightline bag will allow you to retain more of the vehicle's roof capacity for your loaded cargo itself.
