Grease Recommendation for Converting Oil Bath to Grease Hubs

Question:

I recently had a oilbath hub on a ez loader marine trailer vwith reliable brand hubs loose all oil during transit. As I entered an onramp I heard the bearings melt and could see the residual oil burn into smoke as I stopped. This trailer is 2 years old with less than 10k miles. Its usused to transport a 5700 lbs boat in and out of salt water. I was told as long as I can see the oil level is fine there is no need for maintenance with oilbath hubs. But as you can see thats bull. The seal on the inside gave out. Draining all lubrication instantly without any notice. Pooff, your done. Stuck on the road side with no possible way to tow because the boats to tall.... I was lucky the spindal was not ruined. The question is...... Where can I get semi synthetic grease to replace the light viscosity oil or dot 3-4 brake fluid that reliable is installing in these hubs. I dont want to sleep on the roadside again or carry a few spare axles with me everywhere I go. I already ordered two Kodiak all S.S hub disc brakes for the front axle. But for the rear Ididnt want to replace the brand new hubs that came with the trailer. Thanks. Consumer that thinks ez loader trailers and oilbath hubs are worse than being shot in the face.

LMX Red grease is the highest quality grease rated for wheel bearing use. I would recommend going with that. For that you would want part # L11390.

You have found the biggest drawback to oilbath hubs, if a seal goes out on a grease hub you can most likely make it home and replace it and you will be fine. With oilbath, by the time you realize the seal went out you've done damage to the hub or drum.

We don't carry brake fluid, but your local auto parts store should be able to help with that.
