Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier that Allows 2005 GMC Yukon XL Hatch to Open when Loaded
Question:
2005 GMC Denali XL. What is the distance from the back of the door to the inside edge of the carrier? Trying to decide how high the rack can be loaded before impeding the arc of the opening tailgate. Thanks un advance!

Measuring from the bottom of the vehicle hatch to the nearest part of the carrier is not a measurement we take since we do not have access to all vehicles but I do have a measurement or two that will help.
For Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18152 it measures 14-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier basket. The bottom of the basket will be 2-1/2 inches up from the top of the hitch receiver opening. The rails will be another 6 inches up from there. With this information you should be able to determine the approximate location of the carrier once installed.
I have included a link to a help article that might help take some of the measurements on your vehicle.
Another option is to use the Yakima Enclosed cargo carrier # 59109. It will swing off to the side of the vehicle allowing you to open the hatch without any interference. I have linked a couple of videos on this carrier for you.
