Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2014 F150 Towing 20 V-nose Enclosed Trailer

Question:

I have a 20foot enclosed car hauler that I wish to use to transport a Model A Ford weighing 2500 lbs. The empty trailer weighs 3650 lbs and has a maximum cargo capacity of 3350 lbs. I suspect that I will need to install smaller attachment plates due to the v-nose box covering the support rails. I believe I saw that Reese has such an option. Would RP66082 be appropriate for my situation and would it allow for transporting a heavier vehicle at 3350 lbs if needed in the future?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. So on the high end your looking at about 925 lbs of tongue weight. For a similar system to the one you referenced rated for the weight you will most likely see I would recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66084.

Since you have a V-nose trailer you will need to get upgrade to a different chain bracket. You would want to use the part # RP58305. This install by bolting to the side of the frame and do not go above the frame channel like most brackets do. To see a picture of these brackets used on a similar trailer check out the one I attached.

You will need a hitch ball as well. For a 2-5/16 inch ball you would want the part # 19286. For a 2 inch ball you would want the A-90.

I attached an FAQ on weight distribution systems for you to check out also.
