Rear Axle Helper Springs for a Sagging 2010 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4x4

Question:

I am looking at adding helper springs to my 2010 F 150 crew cab 4x4. I tow a 2015 Sprinter 35 ft travel trailer. trailer weight is 8100 lbs. tongue weigh 950 lbs. What would be the best helper spring, Timbren, Sumo Springs, or the Firestone ones. I have a 4 point equalizer weight distribution hitch. Trying to eliminate rear end sag and a little better sway control on windy days. Thanks,

When a vehicle sags because of a trailer the best solution is weight distribution like you are using. Adding suspension enhancement is not always the best solution because the weight distribution system and the helper springs can work against each other.

It is possible that the weight distribution system you are using is either not adequate for the tongue weight or it is not set up with the proper tension on the spring bars. When the correct capacity system is used and properly set up there such not be any noticeable sag.

When you measure tongue weight of weight distribution you need to take the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and then add to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

If that does equal out to 950 pounds then the system you are using will need to be rated for at least 1,000 pounds but 1,200 would be better.

If you wanted to try helper springs I recommend Timbren springs # TFR1504D for this particular situation. A few of my coworkers here use the Timbren springs and they love them. I have included a link to our informational article on Timbren springs for you.
