Best Aftermarket Trailer Hitch on 2014 Audi Q5 TDI w/ Audi Side Assist Feature
Question:
Id like to put a hitch on a 2014 Audi Q5, with the TDI diesel engine and the Audi Side Assist. I see that Audi has different hitch options both crazy expensive! for with and without the Side Assist option. What difference does Side Assist make in the hitch set up and how does that happen with your package? I have read elsewhere that the Side Assist may need to be recalibrated after hitch installation. Is this true? Also, I have read that the vehicle computer needs to have a setting made to say that the hitch is present. Is that something your package tells how to do? Thank you!

We only have one hitch option still available for your 2014 Audi Q5, as the others have been discontinued. I spoke with Curt Manufacturing about their Class III # C13136 which is compatible with the TDI model Q5. The manufacturer told me that they have no information and have received no reports about the hitch interfering with the Side Assist feature. The same applies for any settings in the vehicle computer that would need changing. Your Audi dealer might be able to provide more information about any vehicle settings that might need to be changed once a hitch is installed.
The Curt hitch requires a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 be used for any non-trailer load like a cargo carrier or bike rack. If you'll be using the hitch for towing, you'll need a # AMSC2 ball mount and a # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. You'll need to see your Audi dealer for the trailer wiring.
