Substituting Different Hitch Installation Hardware for Curt Hitch # 13591
Question:
I have a Curtis trailer hitch that I am installing. The original bolts I recieved from your group were 12mm x 40 1.75 in a 8.8 grade. Can I use 10.9 grade bolts of the same size or will they be too brittle?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Thank you for your hitch purchase. The Curt Class III hitch you have, # 13591, should be installed using only the manufacturer's specified hardware. Substitution of different (higher-grade) hardware will void your warranty and grade 10.9 could be, as you note, too brittle.
If you need replacement hardware you can order it easily by entering the part # RHK into our search box.
Then simply enter you hitch part number (# 13591) and the manufacturer (Curt) to see the correct kit for your hitch.
