If you have a 4-way connector at the rear of your 2005 Honda Element and want to tow a trailer with a 7-way connector, you will need to install a kit like part # ETBC7. This will use the 4-way on your vehicle and give you the 7-way connector for towing.

If you have no connector at the back of your Element, you will need to install a 4-way connector first. I recommend the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light w Converter Hardwire Kit, part # C59236. This kit will work with Honda Elements that have LED tail lights, and includes a circuit tester.

The brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885. This is the easiest to install and use and is our most popular. This is what needs to be put under the dash fo your Element. It will get hardwired in with the wiring from the # ETBC7.

As far as the price, this would be a one time investment and you would have all of the items needed for future towing.

I have attached some links to helpful articles about brake controllers and installations you can check out.
