Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2012 Chevy Traverse
Question:
We are looking at getting a hitch and cargo carrier for our 2012 Traverse. Looking for model recommendations for both. Will just be carrying luggage for vacation in the next month or so but will eventually haul boat, ect. Also, eventually want to do wiring harness but that will not be done till later. Would appreciate any recommendations, thanks!!Love you sight so far very informative!

For your 2012 Chevy Traverse I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75528. This is the most popular hitch for your Traverse. It is a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening. The 2 inch receiver is going to have a higher capacity and be compatible with more accessories compared to lower class hitches. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch for you.
For owners of the 2012 Traverse the most popular carrier is Pro Series carrier # 63153. This carrier is rated for 500 pounds and measures 24 inches front to back and 60 inches side to side. It also can be fitted with a light kit, # 98174LED, if the carrier or cargo blocks the vehicle tail lights. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.
To power the lights, and for trailer lights when you do tow, you will need a trailer wiring harness for the Traverse. You can use Tow Ready harness # 118450 which just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked a video showing how it installs.
And to complete your towing set up you can use ball mount # AMSC2. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260, for a 2 inch use # 63845, and for a 2-5/16 inch use # 63847.
