Ball Mount with 2 Inch Rise Longer than 7 Inches to Tow Trailer Level with 2001 Subaru Forester

Question:

I have a 1 and a quarter hitch receiver which is 12 inches from ground to top of receiver. I need to get to 14 inches for level ride for tear camper. It seems that I need a longer shaft than 7 inches.

It sounds like there are a couple of things going on here. First, you need a ball mount with a 2 inch rise. But then it also sounds like you need a ball mount that is longer than 7 inches. The other issue is that on Class I and II hitches you are supposed to use the ball mount recommended by the hitch manufacturer or it could void the hitch warranty.

Ball mount # 3592 is going to be the best bet for the height and length requirements. It has a 2-1/8 inch rise and measures 9-3/4 inches long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. And it measures 6-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the ball platform. This ball mount is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight.

For a higher capacity of 3,500 pounds, you can use # C45016. It has a rise for 2-5/8 inches and measures 9-3/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.

You could also look at the Brophy Ball Mount # BM20 which is 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. This is rated at 10,000 pounds.
