What Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Adapter to Use on 2006 F-250 Crew Cab Short Bed
Question:
I have a 2006 Ford F-250 with the crew cab and short bed. I have had a goose neck ball professionally installed at a local dealer. I am now looking for the correct 5th wheel converter. Can I use the CAG-C5G or must I use the offset version due to the short bed? Regards.

There are several types of adapters to allow a 5th wheel trailer to be pulled by a goose neck-equipped truck, including offset couplers like the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216. This adapter provides 7-1/2-inches of offset for additional clearance needed when pulling a 5th wheel with a short bed truck like yours that has a goose neck hitch.
This type of adapter can be a good temporary/occasional solution but can cause stress in the trailer frame and hitch and in some cases can void a trailer warranty. The other types of adapters offer safer methods for pulling your 5th wheel trailer with a goose neck hitch. I have linked you to an article that explains the variety of adapters available and their benefits.
The safest option is to replace your 5th wheel pin box, if it happens to be one of the compatible models, with a Reese Goose Box such as # RP85FR.
