Are Support Straps Required on Curt Hitch C12031 if I Dont Exceed Tongue Weight Honda Odyssey 2014
Question:
I have a Honda Odyssey 2014 and would like to install the Curt Class II part # C12031 hitch. However, I dont have a roof rack and the hatch edge is plastic so I cant use the required tether strap for bike racks and other accessories. Curt says if you dont use it then your warranty is voided. Here are my two questions: 1 Do you offer another tether strap that can be used? 2 The hitch says that the tongue weight is 350lb. If I dont use the tether strap should I just make sure I dont exceed this weight and I should be ok?

If you want a 1-1/4 hitch for your 2014 Honda Odyssey, my personal recommendation would be to go with the Draw-Tite Class II Receiver Hitch, # 36417. This hitch has a 300 pound tongue weight capacity and does not require the use of support straps.
Curt only offers the one style of Trailer Hitch Support Straps, # 18050. Curt does require that these straps be used with all non-trailer loads no matter what the weight is. Failure to properly support these loads on the Curt Class II Hitch, # C12031, will void your warranty from Curt.
Curt does offer a Class III Hitch, # C13068, for your Odyssey that does not require the use of support straps. A 2 inch hitch would also give you the added benefit of having more options when it comes to hitch mounted accessories.
