Replacement Master Cylinder For Tandem Axle Boat trailer With 10,000 Lb Capacity
Question:
I have a tandem wheel tow master boat trailer, 10,000 lbs capacity. I only see master cylinders for 8,000 and 12,500. Which should I use and is it necessary to replace the exact brand currently on the trailer?

To replace the master cylinder on your tandem boat trailer you will need to know a couple of things. Since there can be no guarantee of a fit you will need to let me know the make of the master cylinder you currently have. Also, are you using disc or drum brakes on you trailer. You would not want to use a disc brake master cylinder with drum brakes because the psi rating is much higher for disc brakes. Using it on drum brakes can lead to damage to the wheel cylinders and very aggressive braking.
You mentioned that we have 8,000 and 12,500 lb capacity master cylinders. The master cylinder itself is not weight rated. The coupler that the master cylinder is installed in is usually what has the weight rating. The master cylinder needs to match the coupler you currently have to make sure it will work.
If you want to send me the information about your current master cylinder I would be happy to make a recommendation that will work for your trailer.
