Recommended Hitch And Carrier to Carry Wheelchair with 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara
Question:
thank you so much for your response to my initial inquire about a wheelchair carrier to carry 200 lb wheelchair on my 2003 grand vitara. I dont have a hitch and I do have a spare on the back. if you could give me a list of everything I need and approximate cost it will help me greatly. im on a fixed income and will have to purchase each piece separately. I live in Lombard Illinois and will need to have someone install everything for me. thank you again!!

To carry a wheelchair on your Grand Vitara, you'll first need a trailer hitch. I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # C13517. To carry the wheelchair, I'd recommend the Flint Hill Goods # FHG77ZR. The carrier is capable of folding up flat against the rear of the vehicle when the wheelchair is removed, but the spare tire on your vehicle would probably prevent it from folding. Regardless of that, the carrier is attractively priced and would work well for you.
The carrier has a 500 lb capacity but would be limited by the 350 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch. As long as the wheelchair and carrier weigh less than 350 lbs, you'll be fine. I would also recommend a hitch lock like part # e98882. The carrier weighs 80 pounds.
You can see current pricing for the hitch and the carrier by clicking on the product links below. I've also linked you to a product demonstration video featuring the # FHG77ZR carrier.
Your local mechanic should be able to install the hitch with no problem.
