Rooftop Cargo Bag for Use on 2003 Saab 93 with Naked Roof

Question:

I am looking at this for my daughters Saab, and not sure if the 15 cu ft. will fit her 93. Shes traveling cross country and needs the largest carrier that will fit on her car. Of course, this would be a bare roof mount. thanks.

The Rightline Ace Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100A20 that you referenced is a great choice for vehicles like the 2003 Saab 93 that do not have roof hardware to secure a cargo bag. This water-resistant unit when loaded measures 44 x 34-inches (and 17-inches tall). The 34-inch width should be fine on this vehicle and a quick check with a measuring tape will give you a good sense of how it will fit.

However, I do suggest you consider instead Rightline's weather-proof version, part # RL100S30, which offers 18-cubic-foot capacity with slightly different dimensions: 48 long x 40 wide x 19-inches tall. For a modest incremental cost this bag offers nylon-reinforced weatherproof PVC fabric, watertight welded bag seams and protective flaps over the zippers. For a cross-country trip this modest additional investment will offer more protection for the loaded belongings in the case of bad weather. You might also consider item # RL100600 which is an optional set of four car clips to better secure the bag.

With any roof bag we recommend keeping the vehicle roof clean of dirt and grit (that could scratch the paint) and also use of a non-skid pad such as # RL100650. Often customers who choose rooftop accessories also select a tire step such as the HitchMate # HE4040 which slips over any tire to provide handy access to the bag for loading and unloading. This step folds up for easy storage in the vehicle. We also have folding step # TE97FR.
