Can Jeep Liberty Hitch Fit 2011 Dodge Nitro
Question:
Hi I have a 2011 dodge nitro and I need a hitch Ive been looking and I see that a jeep liberty hitch has a higher rating of 7500 lbs weight distribution to the nitro hitch of 6000. Now I will generally be towing light but I am a race car mechanic and in the event I need to hook up to a car trailer I want the strongest hitch I can get. I have access to multiple weight dist. Ball mounts so thats not an issue. I just want to know why the hitches are different. As far as I know both vehicles are the same other than small details. If a liberty hitch bolts up thats what Im going to buy. Thanks in advance,

There are several factors that determine the towing capacity or weight carrying capacity of vehicles. Many times they may appear very similar but due to the frame, transmission or engine, the towing capacity can vary by quite a lot.
My research revealed that the trailer hitches we offer for the Jeep Liberty were either Class ll or Class lll and have either the same or lower weight capacity as the hitches we offer for your Dodge Nitro. I would strongly recommend using a hitch that is designed for your vehicle. Many times there can be attach point differences or subtle differences in the brackets and would not be a secure custom fit as those designed for your vehicle.
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2011 Dodge Nitro is the etrailer Hitch, part # e83KR. This is a Class 3 hitch and has a 3,500 lb weight capacity unless a weight distribution system is used, then it does expand to 5,000 lbs. This hitch has a 2 X 2 inch receiver opening.
You will want to check your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the towing capacity of your vehicle.
