Trailer Wiring and Hitch Recommendation for a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox LT

Question:

Hi, I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox LT and was looking into installing a trailer hitch and wiring for trailer signals. If I use the Curt C56012 wiring, which attaches behind a side panel in the cargo area where the jack is stored, is there a way to run the wiring out the bottom of the car and under to connect to the trailer, like how most trucks connect? Or would the wiring have to be run out the back hatch with the jack storage compartment open? I just got the Equinox and havent had the chance to look and see if this was possible yet. Thanks!

The best way to install and use the Curt Wiring Harness part # C56012 would be to keep it stored in the jack compartment when not in use and then when needed open the jack compartment and run the 4-way out through the rear door. Running it through the floor might be possible, but it's not the recommended way for installing the harness so I cannot recommend a way for you to do that.

For a hitch the Curt Class III Hitch # 13591 would be an excellent choice. It's a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening with 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight capacity. Check out the install video I attached.

I just pick up from you the C56012 wiring harness. I have running light . All 3 pins show solid power But for 3 days I been trying to get the brake lights a turn signals to work.. trust me I've tried everything. I even call the dealer service department. and he doesn't know what the problem is I'm stumped ??

So are you saying the 4-Way on the vehicle DOES show power with the turn and brake signals applied? If so, then that means the issue is somewhere on the trailer side. You would want to inspect its 4-Way for any debris/corrosion inside the pins that needs to be cleaned out and make sure all the grounds are still securely attached to clean, bare metal. If I misunderstood please let me know.

@ChrisR . The problem is with the cars wiring . Like I said the driving lights work, the brake lights and turn signals are not... they do show power, but that all .. So I'm thinking the car wiring has a short in them .. all I can think to do now is wire directly to the taillights , run all down to the trailer plug. I hope it doesn't blow the fuses out or make the trailer lights dim. But that's my only hope Obie Wan. ??

@DannyL Hello there. Normally when vehicle lights don't work it would be a wiring problem like what ChrisR said, or it could be bad fuses. Try checking those and if they look good try disconnecting the Curt T-Connector # C56012 to see if that makes any difference for some reason. On a side note - Don't lose the "High Ground".
