Can Vehicle Wiring Harness Be Connected to the Lighter Outlet in the Rear of 2014 Toyota Sienna
Question:
I want to install the C56106 wiring harness in my 2014 Sienna. Not too thrilled about running the wire through the whole van. Can I hook it directly to the Lighter outlet in the back? I believe it has the same 10amp as the module.

When the wiring harness is wired according to the installation instructions, the vehicle's wiring system will not be exposed or put in jeopardy in the event of a short in the trailer's wiring or lighting. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness has a powered converter which isolates all of the power draw to the black power wire. This power wire must be connected directly to the battery in order to safe guard the vehicle's electrical system. If you were to tap directly into the lighter outlet in the rear of the vehicle, it would defeat the purpose of a separate power wire and is not recommended.
I have attached a FAQ article which may be of help to you when routing the power wire.
It is also recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections including plugs and the 4-pole connector itself. Dielectirc Grease, # 11755, helps to prevent electrical failures caused by corrosion and moisture.
