Recommended Highest Capacity 5th Wheel Hitch for the Ford Factory Puck System
Question:
I have a 2014 Ford F-450 and need a 5th wheel hitch never had one before. I believe the truck has the factory tow prep package 5 holes in the bed in the pattern that looks like what Ive seen on the internet. Im looking at a Grand Design 5th Wheel, 16,800 max weight on that but its conceivable in rare circumstances I could double tow so Im thinking a 25,000 or 30,000 GTW hitch to be safe. Not sure what I should be looking for in terms of height or other specs and would appreciate some direction in how to choose since again, Ive never had a 5th wheel before.

Hey Jason it does sound like your 2014 F-450 has the puck system in the bed. Since this is your first 5th wheel hitch and you're wanting some high end capacity, I recommend the Reese M5 5th item # RP68FR. This 5th wheel hitch has a massive 32,000 lbs capacity and will mount directly to the puck system for easy installation and removal.
I really like the Reese M5 item # RP68FR because of its coupling process. It has a easy-to-see lock indicator for maximum safety and security. The one piece wrap around jaw design offers superior jaw-to-king-pin contact. The height is also adjustable. You can choose from either a 14", 16", or 18" hitch height.
I have linked an installation and review video below so you can see the functions of this hitch demonstrated and how to get it set up.
You will want to use a Lube Plate item # RP83001 with the hitch so that you don't have to grease the mating surfaces of the hitch and pin box of the trailer.
