RV has 7 Way and Need to Connect 4 Way for Dolly and 4 Way for Tow Lights to Use at the Same Time

Question:

I have a KarKaddy3 tow dolly to tow a car behind a motorhome, and Roadmaster 2120 magnetic tow lights for the car. Both the dolly and tow lights each have a 4-wire flat plug. I use a 7-way RV blade to 4-way adaptor but I can only plug in either the dolly or tow lights, but not both. Is there a “Y” flat adaptor available or something I can use to plug in both devices without splicing into the existing RV wiring? Thanks

I have a solution for you. We do not have any type of Y adapter but I do have the parts available to allow you to connect both 4 wire flat plugs at the same time. I do recommend that you first check to ensure that you will not be drawing too many amps on the circuit by using both the dolly wiring and the tow lights together.

You will need the following products:
Car and Trailer End Loop, # 9653P Qty 2
Pollack 7-Pole Trailer Connector, # PK12706 Qty 1

First you will start by cutting off the trailer end on both car and trailer end loops, # 9653P. The trailer end is the one with the three exposed contacts. Next step is to take apart the 7 way connector, # PK12706, and connect the wires from both of the end loops to the correct terminals in the 7 way. The use of small ring terminals make make this step a little easier. Keep in mind that the wiring colors that are labeled on the 7 way will not be a color for color match with those on the end loops. I am attaching a diagram that will show you where each of the four wires will go. I have also attached a video which will show you the majority of the process of taking apart the 7 way and connecting the wires.

The addition of a wire loom like, # 7509-10, or electrical tape will give the new wiring system additional protection from the elements.

You should now have the Y style connection that you need.
