How to Find the Correct Replacement Lead Leg for 5th Wheel Landing Gear
Question:
I’m hoping you can help me out with a part number. I have a 2008 Keystone Outback Sydney 5th wheel. Had problems with the landing gear not lifting. Replaced gear box and motor and blew 30A fuses. Changed to a 40A fuse as the new motor is the LG242800 which is the faster speed and indicates it may need up to a 40a. The landing gear leg closest to the switch/motor/gear box has now let go internally. Would this be called the lead leg? See the leg circled in blue on attached photo. Can I successfully replace this away from home with the proper tools? What part number do I need? The original gearbox was a venture. Can I then assume that the landing gear is made by venture?

Thanks for all the information! You are correct that is the lead leg because it is closest to the gear and the motor. However, in order to determine which replacement lead leg you need, you'll need to find the model of the landing gear on your trailer and measure it's outer tube length. This is something we have no way of knowing and I wouldn't want to assume anything.
For example, if you do have a Venture landing gear with legs that measure 29-1/2" you can replace the leg with the Replacement Lead Leg for Venture 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear item # LC122533.
I have added a link below to our entire selection of lead landing gear legs for you to check out once you have this info. Additionally, I would be more then happy to help you find the exact one you need if you could get me some information off of your current set up. Part number/s, manufacturer, the length of the leg. Any and all information you can find please feel free to email me directly with or comment below.
As far as replacing the leg on your own. It's hard to say without knowing your skill level, access to a lift, and tools. What's easy for someone could be an unachievable task for someone else. What I can do is link a video where we swapped out the lead leg so you can see exactly what you would be undertaking.

Hi Jerred, Thank you so much for the response. As we were somewhat stranded on the weekend, in a state park and HAD to move our camper we did end up doing a bit more research. We did measure and it was a 29.5” lead leg, with 15.5” between weld stops. There were no markings on the original leg, but we did end up finding a 179013 in stock yesterday at an RV dealer close to the campground we are at. Compatible with Venture and Lippert. We managed to remove the old one and install the new one in under a half an hour. I should have mentioned my boyfriend is a mechanic and we are both carpenters, so we aren’t shy to tackle the job with a few tools; we always have a full socket set with us. It went quite smoothly and we are happy to have been able to vacate our spot on time. I do think in the future we will switch out the follow leg for another lead leg and install a second motor and gear box, a 30 amp relay and run both off of the same switch. That should reduce the stress on each gearbox and motor and make them last longer. Truly appreciate your response!
