Troubleshooting Lift Motor Issues With A Fan-Tastic Fan RV Vent Model 4100

Question:

I recently had my Fan-Tastic fan control arm replaced on model 4100. It was under warranty. When I got the THOR Magnitude home and operated the fan it would not raise or lower the lid. I have the 17-rpm Lift Motor for Fan-Tastic Vent B Series Roof Vents with Powered Lifts. If I apply a little upward pressure on the motor assembly, where the fan know is it will engage. It seems to me that the splines are not staying engaged, or that the motor and the control arm wont stay matched up to turn. Motor works fine and vent cover works great but only if I assist with the upward motion to get them to meet up. Is there something wrong with the installation from the dealer that I can correct to make the two splines stay together. They are not stripped because when they meet it turns perfectly without any slipping

Hey Randy,

It is definitely possible that with the replacement of the lift motor to part # FVK6010-80 that it wasn't tightened up exactly the same as the previous motor, causing the gears to not engage. You'd have to take a look at the mounting bracket and see if maybe it's bent or if you could potentially bend it (if metal) a bit closer for the gears to lock together. Replacing the lift arm # FVK8011-05 might also be the solution here if it's been worn down a bit.
