Will Stabilizing Straps Used with Curt Hitch Damage the Rear Spoiler on 2013 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Hi, Im interested in using your Curt hitch for my 2013 Highlander with a bike rack. I read that Curt requires use of a supporting strap e.g. 18050 for such a load. However, the 2013 Highlander has a plastic panel on the top of the back door, which isnt load bearing. Can the 18050 strap be attached to the sides or bottom of the back door? What do you recommend in this situation?

My personal recommendation would be to use the Draw-Tite, # 75726. This hitch does not require the use of stabilizing straps, has a 500 pound tongue weight capacity, and no drilling is required for installation. I am attaching a video that demonstrates the installation of the Hidden Hitch on a 2013 Toyota Highlander.
Should you choose to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13534, I recommend lowering the attachment point of the Stabilizing Strap, # 18050. On the bike rack, attach to the upright mast and then run the strap to the lower edge of the hatch opening or another area on the vehicle that would provide support. This will prevent possible damage to your vehicle's rear spoiler. I have also attached a video to give you a better look at the straps and how they are used.
