Does 2022 Ford F-350 Short Bed with OEM Pucks Need Slider Hitch for 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2022 F350 with the factory installed Prep/Puck system and a 69 bed. I do not yet own any 5th wheel hitch systems. My wife and I want to buy a Montana 3123RL or something similar in weight and size. From what I see, I like the BandW Companion hitch rated at 25K, Do I need to consider a sliding hitch for clearance for clearance with my 69 bed? What are your recommendations?

Hey Bruce, so normally a slider hitch is needed when towing with a short bed truck but recently fifth wheel trailer have been made with a tapered nose and extended pin boxes which allows a lot of short bed trucks to easily tow without a slider. So I checked out the Montana 3123RL and it has a tapered nose so it would be okay to use a fixed hitch like the Companion part # BWRVK3305.

Otherwise you would need the slider version part # BWRVK3370.
