Troubleshooting Autowbrake Not Functioning with Brake Pedal

Question:

Hi I had the Autobrake professionally installed in a Tear camper being towed by a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. The manufacturer wired it to be run by a house battery on the trailer that is a 100amph Lithium battery. The system calibrated and worked exactly one time. Even with a fully charged house battery we cannot get the system to actually activate with the pressing of the brake pedal. It acts like it calibrates but once you push the brake pedal you get nothing. I can get one blink of the LED light with the keyfob when freshly hooked to my 4-way connector but nothing with the brake. I spent hours on the phone with the tech to the point they sent me a new unit, but this unit is doing the same thing, so can only deduce it is my set up. I see notes that you shouldnt have this wired to a battery on the trailer, but both the manufacturer of the camper and the controller didnt seem to think that could be the issue. I am wondering if you have any experience with the system acting this way and fixes for my specific set up. Gross weight of the camper is 850lbs so I am well below my 1500lb limit, but I plan to take this through mountain passes in Colorado so really want this system to be reliable and consistent.

Hey Michele, since you have replaced the Autowbrake part # 3430001 already the issue has to be the wiring of the controller. I would recommend going over all of the connections that the brake controller has made to your trailer. Since it's not working with the brake pedal I would start there. Make sure your stoplights on your trailer are activating properly.
