Can 41" Extension Be Added to Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit on a 2,990 lb Gross Weight Trailer

Hello. I would like to know if I can use a Fulton 5000lb hitch extender to add 41 to the hitch on my cargo trailer which has a gross weight of 2990lbs? Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Great question, Wayne!

The 5K Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit for 2" x 3" Trailer Tongue # FHDPB230101 is designed more for cutting into an existing trailer tongue so you gain the ability to fold it away for easier storage. If you have a really short tongue then it's possible to add some more material to it and still maintain a respectable weight rating . For example, in the weight rating chart it states that if the edge of the coupler back to the furthest pivot hole on the hinge kit measures 42" then the gross trailer weight will be 3,000 lbs (see attached).

Just keep in mind the chart and you should be good to go!
