Will Battery Isolator Prevent Deep Cycle Battery Draining 2018 Silverado 1500 Battery
Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 1500 Silverado and I pull a 16 tandem axle, enclosed trailer for my remodeling/handyman business. I installed a deep cycle battery in the trailer with a Purleys Boss Dump charging system wired into the 7-way for power to charge my deep cycle battery. The problem Im having is if I have my interior lights on in the trailer too long while the truck is off and say I drive home from the worksite, then come morning my truck battery is completely dead. I was told I need to install an isolator but I dont know much about them and was wondering if you could help me out or if theres a better option to what Im trying to achieve. Thank you, David

An isolator will prevent the battery drain on your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. I recommend using the Redarc Smart Start Battery Isolator # 331-SBI12. This isolator allows parallel charging so you will transfer power from your start battery to the auxiliary battery once it gains charge from the alternator. When voltage drops too low it will stop the transfer to keep your battery from dying. You can install the isolator between your start battery and the wire running to pin J1-1 on your BOSS™? Dump Trailer Charging System.
