Recommended Tire Chains For A 2022 Honda CR-V With 235/60R18 Tires
Question:
Ive got a 2022 Honda CRV-EX with 235/60 R18 Hancook tires and a rather steep and straight up 200foot paved driveway that sometimes gets really slick in the winter, especially with sleet or ice on it. Most times, AWD gets me up the driveway. However, sometimes, even with sand and salt on the driveway, AWD just doesnt cut it. Sometimes, even the guy who plows the driveway in the winter has to put chains on his truck. This is why Im looking at tire/snow chains. So far, my research has me between the Konig XG-12 Pro 247 and the Pewag Servo RS. Frankly, videos appear to show that the Konig might be a little easier to install but the Pewag seem to have advantages over the Konig e.g. no or less tensioner wheel slap. Your website says the Pewag are confirmed to fit my CRV but the Konig are not, even though it seems, to me, the Konig should fit and work just fine. Do you think either the Konig or the Pewag would do the trick? Is there one you would recommend over the other or maybe even another option you think would work better for my purposes? I very likely would only be using these to get up and down my driveway on those bad days. I have no intention to be driving around on them, unless I get caught in an unexpected snowstorm. Thanks so much!

Hey Dennis thanks for your question. I can definitely point you in the right direction, although it sounds like you are already on the right track. Both of the options you mentioned, the Konig XG-12 Pro 247 # TH01594247 and the Pewag Servo RS # PWRS80 are going to fit the 235/60R18 tires on your 2022 Honda CR-V. Both will also be very similar as far as installation since they are drape-over style self-tensioning chains.
A drape over chain is certainly what I would recommend for your situation. They are going to be very easy to get on and off. Once you get the hang of it, it should only take you a minute or two to get both chains installed, and even less than that to take them off. As with any tire chain, we do recommend that you test fit the chains in your garage just so you can familiarize yourself with the process.
Out of the two options you mentioned, I would go with the Pewag # PWRS80. Their tensioning device is very convenient and easy to use. Another thing I really like about the Pewag chains is that they use a different color of chain link for the vertical and horizontal parts of the chain. This may seem insignificant, but this actually makes untangling the chain much easier. Any tire chain will require some untangling when you remove them from the case. Since your chains will be going in and out of the carrying case pretty frequently, being able to quickly untangle and position the chain will be a major convenience. The diamond pattern chain is also great because it will have constant contact with the road. This will give you much better traction and should make getting out of your driveway much easier and safer.
I have linked a video below that shows installation of the Pewag chains. You can feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
