Is There an Under-Dash Brake Controller Connection Port on the 2005 Mazda B3000 DS Pickup

Question:

I would like to install brake crontoller, how do I know if the truck was factory wired for a brake controller? I am looking at installing the CURT C84VV controller.

An under-dash quick-connect brake controller port is not offered by Mazda on their smaller pickups, so your brake controller will require a hard wire installation. You will use the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit that you referenced. A video and article on installing this kit are included for you. If your truck has a 7-way already you can instead use kit # 5506.

If your truck does not already have a 4-pole flat trailer connector at the rear bumper you will also need a wiring harness to provide one. I recommend Curt plug-in harness # C55325 since this unit installs without cutting or splicing of wires.

The Curt brake controller you referenced, their time-delayed Discovery # C84VV, is shown in the linked installation video. With this unit you will also need the matching wiring # C51515. This controller can be used only with electric trailer brakes.

You might want to take a look at the linked article on brake controllers which covers both time-delayed and proportional types. This details the advantages and disadvantages of each. Proportional units like the Tekonsha P2 # 90885 offer better flexibility as they can be used with both electric and electric-over-hydraulic brakes and they will help reduce brake wear in your tow vehicle.
