Recommended Supplemental Braking System and Other Flat Towing Parts for a 2021 Chevy Traverse

Question:

Hi there, We have a 2023 Thor Luminate Class A, and are looking to flat-tow our 2021 Chevy Traverse. Im new to all of this and curious if you could recommend all the parts wed need? Ideally have a mechanical breaking system, vs putting/pulling a unit out of the car ever time, but curious what what youd recommend. Additionally if you have any local recommendations to have the parts installed on the Traverse? 60119

With that new of a vehicle, I strongly suggest installing a permanent braking system over a portable one. The best one for your 2021 Chevy Traverse would be the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor item # DM86VR.

The Demco item # DM86VR uses proportional braking which is the best way to stop your towed vehicle because it puts less stress on both your Traverse and your motorhome. The DUO activates when your RV brake lights go on and the inertia sensor detects deceleration for no false braking. The included wireless braking monitor, that installs inside your RV, will notify you when the brakes are being applied on your Chevy.

As far as local recommendations go. We do have a link on the left hand side of all of our product pages below the pictures that says Locate installers near me. If you input your zip code and hit search you'll find we have quite a few installers in our network near you.

The rest of the parts needed to flat tow your 2021 Chevy Traverse are listed below:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar item # e74ZR

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM-523200-5

Battery Disconnect Switch - Roadmaster Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle item # RM-766

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
