Recommendation for a Custom Plug In 5 Pole Wiring Harness for 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Reese hitch installed. I need to install wiring, and would like a custom fit, plug in application. There is currently no trailer wiring installed. Does the wiring harness, code c55369, plug directly into existing vehicle wiring? Also, is there a 5 pole harness available, or just 4 pole? Thanks

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C55369, plugs directly into your 2003 Jeep Cherokee's existing wiring harness. The harness is located behind the driver's side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. I am attaching an installation video which may be of help.
There are no plug-in style 5-pole wiring harnesses available so in order to change the 4-pole to a 5-Pole, you will need Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 20036. Just plug the 4-pole end of the wiring harness into the 4-pole end of the adapter.
The next thing you will need to do is to run the fifth (blue) wire on the adapter. Most likely this wire is used for a reverse lockout for surge brakes or reverse lights. If this is the case, you will need to tap into the reverse light circuit of your Grand Cherokee. A circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, should be used to locate the wire that only has power when the vehicle reverse lights are illuminated. The extra blue wire should be connected to that circuit by using the included quick-splice wire connector. I have also attached an installation video for this product as well. It gives some helpful tips to ease the installation process.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections. Dielectric Grease, # 11755, helps prevent electrical failures caused by corrosion and moisture.
I am also attaching a FAQ article about troubleshooting 4- and 5-way wiring installations. It is a great article that provides valuable information should you run into any problems during installation.
