Towing Capacity of 2000 Honda Accord V6 Automatic Transmission

Question:

I have a chance to buy a really rare find, A 2000 Accord V6 Automatic with only 29,000 original miles. Need to know the towing capacity and if the hitch mounts into the frame or has to be bolt and washer mounted into the spare tire well. I have a Lund fishing boat,Boat/Motor/trailer weight right at 1000 lbs. Thank you

I managed to locate an online copy of the 2000 Accord Owners manual. On page 186, Honda states that the maximum towing capacity of the vehicle is 1,000 lbs and that the maximum tongue weight load (downward force applied to hitch) should be no more that 100 lbs.

The Curt Class I hitch # C11390 you referred to does indeed connect to the spare tire well. It is the only hitch available for your Accord. You'll also need the appropriately sized ball mount like # 3594 with includes a pin and clip and trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19256 or part # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. You will also need a wiring harness, part # 118336.

Since you're right up against the towing capacity of the vehicle, I'd proceed with caution. If your route to the lake includes frequent hills, I'd use a different vehicle to tow with. I would highly recommend you install a transmission cooler like part # D13502 to provide extra protection for your transmission.

To see an install video showing the hitch being installed on a 2002 Accord, click the provided link. The install procedure on your Accord would be identical.
