Troubleshooting No Power to Voyager Brake Controller # 39510 on 2008 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I apparently have no power to my Tekonsha brake controller. I installed this on my 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500, hard wired in. 1- Is there a fuse installation required for this unit? 2- Do I need to level the unit on the dash? I have it mounted within the vertical angle. Does horizontal matter? 3- Will the LED stay on once connection is complete? or only during braking? Your advice is most appreciated!

If you are not getting power to your Voyager brake controller # 39510, I would first test the controller's black 12-volt power wire to see if there is power going to the controller. You could use a tester like our # PTW2993 for this. Also, a solid ground is essential, so I would check the white wire to make sure it is well grounded.
If the ground and power are good the problem is in the brake controller and it will need to be replaced.
I attached an FAQ article on brake controllers for you to check out as well as two videos on diagnosing a brake controller problem and installation of the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado.
The Voyager brake controller # 39510 is designed to be mounted in your cab at a vertical angle that is between -20 degrees and +70 degrees. The Voyager must be mounted on a level horizontal plane and must be lined up with the direction of travel for the internal sensor to function properly.
There is no supplemental fuse installation needed for the unit, but you should check the fuse box in the engine compartment to make sure the red wire with a ring terminal attached (located between fender well and the fuse box) that provides power for the controller is connected to the stud in the fuse box as shown in the linked video.
The LED light burns green to indicate your trailer and tow vehicle are connected. As you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, the LED will change to red. This indicates that power is being sent to the trailer brakes. The light will also burn red whenever you activate the manual override lever. The LED light will not come on if a trailer is not connected.
