How To Add More Tailgate Clearance To A Weight Distribution Hitch
Question:
I want to extend my tongue on my Basecamp 16 so my Jeep tailgate will open. Are longer spring bars available or what do you suggest. I’m thinking that I will extend the tongue about 12”.

There aren't longer spring bars to increase your tailgate clearance but you can replace the shank of your WDH to gain some additional clearance. A standard shank on an Equal-i-zer WDH is about 12" in length so you could swap to the 18" # EQ90-02-4600 or # EQ90-02-4500 for an additional 6" of clearance. You won't be able to get a full extra 12" of clearance but this should help a bit. If you have a different weight distribution hitch let me know so I can make sure the shank is compatible with it.
