Parts Needed to Add 3,500 lb Disc Brakes to Boat Trailer

Question:

I need to put brakes on a 2002 Load Master trailer with 3 x 3500# torsion type axles. The boat, trailer and motors will weight between 8000 and 9000 Lbs. How many axles have to have disc brakes mounted on them to have sufficiente braking power? I need to buy everything but the axles.

To do a Hydrastar kit electric over hydraulic you'd need the part # HBA16-252-82 that includes the actuator, breakaway kit, junction box, and 7-way trailer connector. Then for just the disc brake kits part # K2HR35D and you'd be set. I prefer the Hydrastar actuators as they are more reliable overall and faster reacting.

Normally for a tandem axle trailer if you're going to do a single axle of brakes on a boat trailer you'd want to put the brakes on the rear axle.
