The Timbren front-axle jounce spring suspension kit you referenced, part # TGMFK25S, is a fit for both 2WD and 4WD versions of the 2004 Sierra 1500 SLT. These bolt-on without any drilling required (using included hardware) and replace the factory bump stops now on your truck.
These and all other suspension enhancement products we offer are designed for use in vehicles whose suspension system is in good order. They are not intended to be an alternative to replacing a worn or damaged suspension. They do offer additional support for applications like use of a snow plow or winch where there is additional weight loaded on the front suspension.
There are too many potential variables for me to say whether or not the 1/2-inch clearance from your control arm to the current factory bump stops is correct, but if the suspension is not worn out or damaged then this kit will help when your front end is under load. It is a good idea to first have a shop inspect your suspension if you are in doubt about its condition.
The Timbren jounce springs require zero maintenance once installed (unlike air bags) and their resistance varies progressively with the load. When your truck is not carrying the plow for example your ride quality will remain largely unchanged, but when loaded there will be additional support for the stock suspension.
I have linked the installation instructions for you as well as an article concerning Timbren springs. You will need appropriately-rated jacks and jack stands to allow the front suspension to hang freely during installation; you will also need some basic hand tools.
For reference I have also linked our main page for rear-axles Timbren kits; you can select your 1500 version from the drop-down menu at the top of the page to see compatible rear-axle kits.
