Flare fittings have a slightly different shape than a standard fitting. There's both flare and inverted flare fittings so it's important that choose the correct fitting to ensure that it'll work with whatever you're connecting it to and won't leak. The MB Sturgis Single Stage Propane Regulator # 108072 you were looking at requires 1/4" male NPT (national pipe thread) fittings so you wouldn't need a flare fitting to connect to it.
