Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

will this make the brakes work? 08 dodge ram 1500

It sounds like your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 did not come with a 7-Way trailer connector or that it did not come with any type of connector at all. In order to get electric trailer brakes to work you will need a functioning 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller.
If your truck does not have any trailer connector then you will start by installing a 4-Way, # 119178KIT. If it already has a 4-Way you will not need to add another one.
Then you will need to install a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This will provide the 7-Way and the wiring needed to install a brake controller. I have included some links that explain and show the ETBC7 installation.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to use and set up and it is reliable. I have included a link to our informational article on brake controllers for you.
You cannot use 7-Way # HM42190 because it is meant as a replacement for trucks that came with a factory installed 7-Way.
