Recommended Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 GMC Sierra Behind a Semi

Question:

I need an easy on/off solution for a pintle hook to be connected to the back of a semi-tractor in order to tow my car back when going to pick-up a semi truck somewhere. The semi truck is different every time so I need to be able to hook it up and remove it relatively quickly.

You will need an entire flat tow setup on your 2012 GMC Sierra in order to do this the right way. Here are the parts I recommend using for this:

- Blue Ox Allure Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7460P (comes with safety cables)
- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1674 for 1500 or # BX1694 for 2500/3500
- Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56101
- Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-146-7
- Pollak Heavy-Duty, 7-Pole, Round Pin Connector # PK11700
- Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494

The tow bar has a lunette ring to connect to the trucks you'll be picking up, and then you'll cut off the 4-Way from the Hopkins kit to tie the wiring into the 6-Way as well as cutting off the 7-Way from the Roadmaster wiring and replacing that with the Pollak 7-Pole connector which should match what semi trucks have. Then you just need the brake kit for safety and to legally flat tow and you're all set!
