Should A Hitch Extender Be Used to Transport An 11' Boat On a CE Smith Multi-Sport Plus Trailer

Question:

Would the CE Smith #CE48870 trailer work for an 11foot Saturn Azzurro Mare soft hull inflatable boat and a 9.9HP Tohatsu outboard? We plan to connect the trailer to a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that has a 2inch receiver hitch. Should we install an extender to prevent the tailgate from hitting the trailer and/or the boat when we open it? Is it better to transport the outboard inside our Jeep, or is the trailer robust enough to transport the boat with the outboard attached to the transom? Assuming we would need to use a transom saver and other transom support if we did that. What is the maximum recommended highway speed for the trailer? What are the additional recommended parts and accessories for using this trailer with our intended use? Thanks so much!

Expert Reply:

No, you don't need an extender because the CE Smith Multi Sport Plus Boat and Kayak Trailer w/ Bunks # CE48870 you're looking at can house up to a 14' kayak so with your boat plus the motor being nearly 3' shorter you'll be just fine.
