Recommended Flat Towing Components For A 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I am thinking about using as a TOAD. I currently have the OEM stock front bumper. My RV that will be flat towing the jeep is a 2023 Thor Delano 24TT. It has the MB 188hp diesel engine. Hitch weight of 5000 lbs. Can you suggest a budget friendly BUT WITHOUT sacrificing safety. I will also need detailed instructions on how to fit my jeep to be towed.

For the best flat towing components that won't break the bank for your 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited you'll want the following parts:

Baseplate: etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit # e98949.

Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e34ZR. This tow bar includes safety cables that are bracketed to the arms to prevent them from dragging on the ground. The head and shank have a bit of adjustability to help keep it level between the motorhome and Jeep without having to purchase an additional high/low adapter.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit will splice into your Jeep's wiring and will display your motorhome's traffic signals through the tail lights of the Jeep. You can do this a bit cheaper with magnetic lights, like part # TL21RK, but these would require setup every time.

Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. This fixed system will install in the Jeep for a one-time setup and be ready to go whenever you need to tow.

The battery will need to be disconnected while towing your Jeep so you can either physically disconnect it or use a disconnect switch like part # RM-766 to disconnect the battery with the push of a button. I also highly recommend installing a charge line kit like # RM-156-25 to keep the battery charged while you tow.

I've attached installation videos below for each of these parts to help walk you through the process, but you'll still need to refer to your owner's manual for any steps listed to get your Wrangler ready to flat tow.
