Comparing 2018 Ram 2500 Draw-Tite and EcoHitch Front Mount Hitches
Question:
Im looking for a front hitch for my 2018 ram 2500, primarily for using a hitch-mounted winch. Im looking at the draw-tite and the ecohitch, which look very similar in design. The draw-tite is rated to a higher pull, but the ecohitch is substantially more expensive. Is the ecohitch known to underrate their products? Is the quality higher? A side question: both of these are rated for line pulls below a normal 10k truck winch. Will using such a winch easily break things? Is it only recommended to use an ATV winch on these hitches?

Expert Reply:
Both the Draw-Tite # 65063 and EcoHitch # 306-X7900 front mount trailer hitches are great options for your 2018 Ram 2500, but EcoHitch tends to be a bit overpriced (at least about 95% of the time) so unless there is a specific feature setting it apart that you absolutely HAVE to have (like the integrated recovery loops) then there really isn't a big benefit to their brand. They initially came out with the first concealed crosstubes for rear hitches which made the high price-point worth it, but almost everyone now has that design and they've chosen to keep their price at a higher level than everyone else.
When it comes to weight ratings you need to keep from exceeding the lowest rated component. So if the 9K line pull rating of the Draw-Tite hitch is the lowest rated component then you want to keep from using the winch for anything over 9K.
