Parts Needed to Install 7-Way on a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Without Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer sport trac xlt. I don’t see the harness for a brake controller. I need to hook up the 12v charging and electric brakes through a 7 pin connector. Is there a way to do this without running new wire from the hitch under the truck, motor, and then inside the vehicle? Is it possible to just use an adapter?

Since you aren't seeing a factory harness for the brake controller it means your 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac doesn't have the factory tow package so you'll need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to a 4-Way # C58044 and then route the wiring from the back of your vehicle up to the battery and inside your cab so the 7-Way will be fully functional.

We actually installed this on an '03 Sport Trac so I've linked that here for you to reference.

If you don't already have a brake controller I recommend checking out the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 and Pigtail # 20127 as this controller is both cost and operator friendly.
