Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2012 Rockwood Roo 23RS Travel Trailer

Question:

Good morning, I currently have a Blue Ox Sway Pro system that I used for a 1976 vintage camper that we sold. It is a model BXW1000 thus having the 3 dot bars for up to 1,000 lb hitch capacity. We are looking at a used camper and I plan to use the Blue Ox on it. It is a 2012 Rockwood Roo 23sr with Dry weight 4143, GVWR 6145 and dry hitch 499. When I look at the blue ox website there is a chart that says which hitch to use and I am pretty confused. The hitch weight puts this camper in a BXW0550 or one dimple bars but the dry and GVWR puts it in the BXW1000 3 dimple bars. Will my current 3 dimple bars work or should I switch to a 1 dimple bar? Thanks

Since you're moving to a lower tongue weight your current Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1000 is going to be too overrated and won't properly distribute the weight of the trailer across the frame of your tow vehicle. The Blue # BXW0550 would be underrated for your trailer's GVWR and TW so it also would not be the correct choice. you would instead need to use the # BXW0750 to have enough capacity for your trailer, without overdoing it. Luckily the SwayPro systems all use the same heads so you can just swap out your 1000lb spring bars for some 750lb spring bars # BXW4006 to lower the cost.

With you being 499lbs dry the added weight of items stored in the trailer, full propane tanks, and any items you store in the bed behind the axle will add to the tongue weight and help put you closer to the middle of these spring bars' range.
