Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885, 22292 Installation in 2012 Ford F-150 with 4-Pole

Question:

I purchased the 37185 adapter, the 22292 tow ready plug, and the 90885 controller. Which of your videos more closely matches my hook up? My truck has the factory grey connector under the dash but did not have the trailer connector with 7 pins, only the 4 pin light hook up. Also for the back-up light wire, can I just cut it and cover the end?

I have linked an installation video for the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake controller and harness, part # 90885 and # 22292, in a 2012 Ford F-150. I have also linked a video for the Hopkins 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole Adapter you are using, part # 37185, showing installation in a 2011 F-150.

The photo provided shows the Hopkins 7-way adapter and the loose wires with butt connectors, some of which will need to be connected in order for your P2 to activate the electric (or electric-over-hydraulic) brakes on your trailer. The blue wire will connect to the brake output on the P2; the white ground wire with ring terminal connects to a clean bare metal surface on the vehicle frame. You will not need to connect the purple wire unless you wish to tap into the tow vehicle reverse light circuit; you will not need to connect the black wire unless you need 12V power for the trailer, in which case you will also need to install a 40-amp breaker (part # 9510). If not used these leads can be taped off.

Depending on how your vehicle is equipped from the factory you may need to use a brake controller wiring kit, part # 5506. Trace the wires from your 4-pole back up toward the front of the truck to the point on the frame rail where it meets a connector coming from the front of the vehicle. If at that location you find blue and orange (or blue and red) wires that are not connected to the 4-pole then these will need to be extended back to the 7-way. The blue factory wire carries the brake signal and should connect to the blue wire on the 7-way; and the orange (or red) wire carries +12V that connects to the black wire on the 7-way. Kit # 5506 includes a 30-amp breaker for powering the P2 as well as 10-gauge duplex wire and connectors.
