Is the Thule Helium Aero Bike Rack Rust Proof and as Stable as Platform Bike Racks

Question:

I live by the Atlantic ocean where salt corrodes everything. I currently have a 2 bike Thule platform hitch attached. It functions and I can get to my trunk when bikes are on the rack but it has rusted terribly. Is this as stable as the platform model and what is the likelihood that I will have significant rust issues? I look forward to hearing from you.

The Thule Helium Aero, # TH9042PRO, features built-in anti-rattle and anti-sway cradles with road dampening technology so once properly installed and loaded it will be on par in terms of stability with platform style racks.

Since the bike rack is made of aluminum and automotive grade plastics corrosion will not be nearly as much of an issue as it is with steel racks. Some of the internal components may be susceptible though. I recommend hosing off the rack with fresh water before storing it and when it is not in use, store it inside. This will go a long way in preventing rust. I have linked a video review of the bike rack for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.
