Can Slider Bas Swap Out for Fixed Base for 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 Towing 2023 Grand Design Solitude

Question:

BandW Companion fifth wheel hitch, slider vs non-slider horizontal adjustment options: Setup is a 2023 GMC Denali 3500 standard bed with 2023 Grand Design Solitude 310GK. I currently have the BandW Companion slider hitch, mounted in the most rearward position, which according to the BandW specs for GM is kingpin 1inch in front of the axle vs kingpin 3inch in front of the axle with the pivot arms mounted in the opposite position. Without using the slider function, I can get close to 90 degrees before the truck cab and front of the RV meet. When I look at the GM specs for the standard, non-slider Companion hitch, the two mounting positions are kingpin 2inch behind axle, and kingpin over axle. So what Im thinking is that I could switch out my slider base for the standard base, assemble it in the kingpin over axle position, and actually gain 1foot of additional clearance to the cab, plus save the extra ~130 lbs and extra space being taken up by the slider. Is that correct?

You are on the right track with your thinking and doing exactly what I would do if I were you. You can swap out the slider base of your Companion for GM rail kit to the fixed base part # BWRVB3710 and in the rearmost head position you'd have enough turning clearance and save yourself a lot of weight! Fixed hitches are often a lot quieter too so that's a nice benefit you'd gain as well.
