How To Decide Between 4.80-12 Load Range B and C For 14' Boat Trailer

Question:

I have an older alum vhull 14 side console flat floor boat with a 30hp outboard. The trailer has 1 spindles. I want to replace the tires which are 4.80-12 load range B. I was going to get load range C, but see they have 90psi requirement. I feel that would be to stiff. Should I stick with load range B ? I do plan on having up to 30 gallons of gas iand other gear n boat for traveling.

That's going to depend on how much your boat actually weighs.

A 4.80-12 load range B tire like # AM10060 is rated for around 785lbs per tire, where the load range C version # AM10062 is rated for 990lbs per tire instead.

I'd take your trailer to a local weigh station and see how much it weighs, and go with the lighter tire if you safely can. Increasing the load range of a tire will stiffen the tire, so if you don't need that extra capacity for safety you're better off sticking with a lighter rated tire.

If you can let me know how much your setup weighs I can help out more as well.
