How to Determine if You Can Switch From 16" Wheel and Tires to 17.5" on a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Im needing to replace our 5th wheel camper tires and Id like to go ahead and replace the wheels too. We currently have a 16 8-lug set running Sailum ST235/80R16 tires. Will a 17.5 set fit right on to my existing setup?

There are a couple things that you will want to verify first, but more than likely you will be able to switch from your current 16" wheels to 17.5" wheels like the Aluminum Lynx Trailer Wheel # 274-000006 you were looking at.

The width of the tires for the 17.5" is actually slightly more narrow, so they will fit width wise. You will want to check your wheel bolt size. Your 16" wheels can use either a 1/2"-20 or 9/16"-18 wheel bolt. To go up to 17.5" wheels you need to have the 9/16"-18 wheel bolt size.

The other thing to check would be the height of your wheel well. Your ST235/80R16 tires should have a wheel diameter of 30.8" and the comparable 17.5" tires like the Provider 235/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire # P35175 will be at 31.38".
